Day 15 Woody Head, NSW

 Monday 28.2.22

7am. We are hoping to move on today. Hasn't stopped raining for over 24hrs.

10am.Yep, that's not happening.  Iluka road to highway is flooded at Esk River so we have moved but only to a slightly higher site across the road from where we were. We will have access to water and the boys have found a spot to plug πŸ”Œ in to recharge the batteries.

Iluka

3pm and it's still raining 🌧

Even the Roo has had enough of the rain.
Finally about 7 pm the rain eased and then stopped. Since 9am this morning this area has had 252mm of rain. The respite only lasted a couple of hours before it started raining again.

As it was a bit cooler tonight we tested out the new heater. Works very well and got turned off very quickly as I got too hot.

Day 14. Woody Head, NSW

Sunday 27.2.22

Well the rain has caught us up. Reception is even worse. We've gone to Iluka, 12km round trip, for Yvonne's birthday lunch.

The red dot is where we are.
Iluka pub, Sedgers Reef Bistro.

Rain 🌧 rain 🌧 and more rain 🌧 today.  We had a few games of snap, lots of smokos in Y&Gs van. A quick check of the beach in a easing of the wet stuff and that was our day.

Day 13. Woody Head, NSW

 Saturday 26.2.22

Woke to rain a couple of times during the night. A couple of morning showers each time we tried to go for a walk.

The water is being well churned up.
We have been trying to walk out to the next bay, aka back beach, over all the rocks for the last 5 days. Each time we get turned back by the rain. This afternoon we finally made it πŸ‘

Only 2.26kms but most of that was over rocks.
Yvonne and Gunther arrived this afternoon.  We weren't expecting them to catch up with us for another few days yet. They had horrendous rain in Beenleigh and decided to get out. Hopefully they didn't bring it with them.
Not often you see kangaroos on the beach.
Just for something different, we went for another beach walk. Actually, I'm surprisingly, really enjoying being by the beach for so long but we'll be moving on Monday morning.
The foam is alive. It is pulsating.

Temperature is a bit cooler tonight and a few stars are trying to peek through the clouds.

Day 12. Woody Head, NSW

***WARNING LOTS OF PHOTOS TODAY***

Rained again during the night a few times.  Very windy this morning and at 7am the sky is dark with a small patch of blue.

🎢A little ray of sunshine has come into our world🎢

Went for yet another walk.

The weather cleared a little so we drove in to Maclean. Reception is better so I've quickly added photos.

Maclean Police station built in 1895.
Court House, built in 1891 at a cost of £2581.

Former stock exchange now an Accounting firm.
Pub.

Lots of Scottish signs and light poles painted in tartan colours.

Clarence River looking very full.

We've walked about 5kms so far this morning and decided to have brunch at 11am.

Old operating theatre built in 1886, in use until 1955. Saved and restored from a Heritage grant.
Stone cottage built in 1886 from stone quarried on site and local timber. It is now a museum.

St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, built in 1890. The tower stands at over 18m tall.

Maclean public school and residence was built in 1902/3. It's had lots of extensions and additions.

The Gables was built in 1867 and is the oldest private building in Maclean. It has been restored to its former glory.

Even the toilets have a Scottish flavour.

Lions Park lookout, Maclean.

Clarence River in the distance.
Looking towards Woody Head/Iluka.

After a lovely day out, where it didn't rain, it was time to head for home.

Clarence River as we were leaving.
Grass was getting a bit long, we've been here 7 nights already. The office is happy for us to stay another couple of nights on this site as the people who were arriving today cancelled due to the weather.

In total, today I have walked over 10kms. We drove 64kms.

Day 11. Woody Head, NSW

Today should be our last day here. It has been raining since lunchtime yesterday and not much sunshine for a few days so our batteries are getting low. Mark has charged them up a bit from the battery bank he put in the cruiser so we should be good for a bit longer.

We managed to get out for a few short walks between the rain bursts. Thankfully the sun came out for an hour or so and added some charge to the batteries.

Day 83. Home πŸ˜’

Saturday 7.5.22 Light showers overnight, but it had stopped when we got up, so we were on the road just after 7am. Welcome back to roadworks...
