Day 4. Ballina, NSW

 Thursday 17.2.2022.

Happy 3rd Birthday to our little grandson Oliver. πŸŽ‚ πŸ₯³ πŸŽ‰ 🎈 🎁

We are moving on today. First stop will be in Byron Bay. I've not been here before. I'm writing this as we wait for a solar powered, 1942 vintage train to take us into town.

We are the only ones in this carriage and we were asked to put masks on.
Train went past the wetlands.
Walked through town and along the trails to the most easterly point on mainland Australia. Then climbed up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse.  It was a mammoth effort. We walked over 4.5kms to get there and took an easier route home, another 3.6kms. We are both exhausted as it was very steep in places. We did enjoy some very delicious croissants for lunch as a reward for our efforts.
View on the way up, looking back at Byron Bay.

On the way down we found a beautiful shady spot to lay down for a mini rest.
Back on the train.
NSW seems to love their tunnels.
We have booked into a caravan park in Ballina. The pool was refreshing.

Today we travelled 91kms, taking the total to 502kms. Temperature got to 28°c and I got a bit sunburnt on our walk.
