Day 74. Yass showgrounds, NSW

Thursday 28.4.22

Drizzling rain on and off over night.

Didn't stop us enjoying a cuppa outside this morning.

Sheep in the paddock next door.

Checked out the old railway.

Into Gundagai town to explore. Last time we were in the area we only visited the dog on the tuckerbox.
Front entrance to the museum came from one of the original banks.

Flood marker.

Plenty of old buildings
St Patrick's school c.1924
Not sure how the children enter the building 🤔

An old bank.

Court House and memorial were closed off for renovations work.
Main street.
Coffee wasn't as good as advertised.
Diesel must be very special 🤷‍♀️

Dad & Dave, Mum & Mabel statue.  Plaque was missing so no further information available.

Art by Simon Sawell.

Old church buildings have been converted to accommodation.

A good couple of hours spent exploring Gundagai, then it was time to find a place to call home for the night.
The weather was deteriorating as was the roads.

We've decided to call Yass home for a couple of nights. We're staying at the showgrounds and it's only $20 per night with power and water!

Saint Clements Church and graveyard. Headstones from as early as the 1860s.

So many beautiful, big trees it was hard to get a decent photo.

Giant mushroom growing in the church grounds.
Old tramways trestle bridge

Under the bridge.

Hamilton Hume, the first Australian born explorers remains. Born 1797, died 1873.

Railway museum.

After a very busy day we had a satay chicken dinner in the van with the heater on low and watched a little TV.

Today we travelled 104kms, taking the total hitched to 4293kms.
